University of Connecticut undergraduate students, at all campuses, are welcome to apply to the Department’s Fast-Track Program. This program is onlyopen to students currently enrolled at UConn campuses. Most Fast-Track students are UConn sophomores, juniors or seniors, however, some have begun as freshmen.
The Fast-Track program can “jump start” your graduate work in the Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), or Master of Arts in Survey Research (MASR) degrees. In many cases, if planned properly, students can obtain their master's degree in just one additional year after their bachelor's degree.
Is Fast-Track Right For Me?
If you are a current UConn undergraduate and have an interest in gaining the skills to work in a nonprofit organization, policy research and analysis or public service area then the Fast-Track program is an excellent match for you.
We welcome all majors!
Fast-Track students can be on the path to earn their Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), or Master of Arts in Survey Research (MASR) degrees.
- Fast-Track and the Master of Public Administration (MPA)
The MPA program provides students with a dynamic and integrated approach to the field of public management. The use of practical experiences and internships combined with theory, analysis, and case studies in the classroom make the MPA program job-relevant and intellectually challenging. - Fast-Track and the Master of Public Policy (MPP)
The MPP program provides top caliber instruction in policy analysis and program evaluation. The focus is on providing you with the rigorous analytic and quantitative skills you need to assess policies and to evaluate programs. The program is centered on analysis of real-work problems and the policies and programs that address them. - Fast-Track and the Master of Arts in Survey Research (MASR)
Join the $19 billion survey research industry (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2017). Survey research professionals are in high demand among the governmental, academic, and private industries. Students entering graduate programs come with backgrounds in statistics, data science, and human and social behavior. The fully online UConn MASR program is a blend of traditional and cutting-edge methodologies which prepare graduates for exciting survey and market research careers.
How it Works
It is flexible! You do not need to take a course with us every semester, but you can also take up to four courses a semester with us. You choose the number of courses that fit your schedule, needs and interest.
There is no additional cost to your undergraduate tuition.
The Graduate courses count toward your 120 credits needed as an undergraduate.
Courses are held at the Storrs and Hartford Campuses, typically from 2-4:30pm or 5-7:30pm for Storrs classes and 4-6:30pm or 6:30-9pm for Hartford courses.
Survey Research courses are online.
Fast-Track students must request a permission number in order to register. Regardless of your registration “pick-time,” the permission number will guarantee your spot in the course. (Please note: except for Survey Research Fast-Track students, online courses are not typically available to Fast-Track students.)
Internship Experiences
Gaining real-world experience can add that edge to your resume you need to secure a job, but it can be challenging to find the right connections to make it happen. Our Department has relationships with hundreds of local municipalities, state agencies and nonprofits from around the state that are seeking interns to work for them.
We value professional experience and encourage our students to apply to our paid internship opportunities. We offer two unique internship programs:
